As African-Americans, we don’t get to hear about our African ancestors’ legacies often. For most of us, our heritage is shrouded in mystery on a distant continent, far from our daily lives in the U.S.
Sure, we can research on our own, but the only way we can truly understand our rich history is to see it for ourselves.
We’re headed to Ghana from November 7-16 to learn more about the country’s ancient kingdoms, our ancestors’ journeys and to get a taste of the electric energy Ghana’s cities are famous for.
If you’ve ever wanted to reconnect with your roots, don’t miss this trip!.
We’ll start in the capital city of Accra. Once we drop our bags at the five-star Kempenski Hotel, we’ll dig into local cuisine to fuel up for the next day. We’ll hit national treasures like the Black Star National Square, Independence Arch and Nkrumah Memorial Museum and even get a Ghanaian drumming lesson during our private tour.
The culturally enriching experiences don’t stop there. The tour continues as you shop ‘til you drop in the local markets, tour Manhyia Palace, the seat of the historic Ashanti Kingdom and walk in our enslaved ancestors’ footsteps at the Donkor Nsuo River and the Elmina Castle historic site. You’ll also learn about traditional Ghanaian weaving, drumming, stamp printing and receive a spirit name from Ghanaian elders.
While this trip is packed with mind-blowing cultural and educational moments, we’re definitely going to have fun and live it up! Trust us, you’ll fall in love with the Gold Coast! We’ll do everything from checking out a cocoa farm to horseback riding to kicking back at picture perfect beaches.
As always, we’ve taken care of all the details in advance and hooked you up with the best tour guides and hotels. All you need to do is show up ready to have a great time.
